“We are proud that so many outstanding contributors agreed to work on the first issue, including dog-loving travel writer Gavin Bell. It’s also rewarding to have content from the many charities we support and from our pet-loving clients.

As part of an animal welfare campaign called Who’s for cats?, RSPCA Victoria, in conjunction with Animal Aid Trust, Cat Protection Society and the Lost Dogs Home is offering desexing, vaccination and microchipping of semi-owned cats for just $60.
The coalition of animal welfare organisations is calling on the residents of Melbourne to ‘stop feeding a bigger problem’ and take full ownership of the stray cats they may be feeding. As an incentive to take this action, all five shelters will offer semi-owners the special rate of $60 from May 1 – May 31.
Each person will also receive a free showbag, containing a cat collar and tag, a photo frame magnet, a cat toy, and cat ownership booklets.
“Melbourne’s stray cat population is nearing half a million, that’s half a million too many cats born into lives of disease, neglect and starvation,” said RSPCA Executive Manager Animal Welfare Jo Lindley.
“People believe they are doing the right thing by feeding strays. In fact, they are worsening the problem by ensuring the reproduction of more helpless kittens. These semi-owners should either call their local council and take steps to hand the cats in or take full ownership of the cat(s) they are feeding,.
“Taking full ownership means desexing, mircochipping and vaccinating a cat. During the month of May, semi-owners who qualify for the program can have these procedures performed for just $60, a saving of between $100 and $200 depending on the age of the cat”, said Ms Lindley
“Bookings are essential and the offer will be extended to the first 100 applicants at each shelter. Please call 9224 2222, or one of the other participating shelters, if you think you qualify as a semi-owner.”

10am Sunday May 18, 2008
The 14th Annual Million Paws Walk will be held on Sunday 18 May at Albert Park Lake and 13 locations around regional Victoria.
This year at Albert Park, along with the usual live entertainment, giveaways, demonstrations, pet competitions, free vet advice, dog washes and food for sale they will also be attempting to break the Guinness World RecordTM for the Biggest Dog Walk in the world!

In 2007, more than 16,000 people across Victoria participated in the Million Paws Walk and helped the RSPCA raise more than $200,000. These funds were used to assist their shelters, inspectorate, veterinary and education services. As RSPCA Victoria receives only 4% government funding, community support of events such as Million Paws Walk are vital in raising the funds needed to care for all creatures great and small.

When you and your canine friend do the Million Paws Dog Walk in Melbourne, you not only help to raise money for RSPCA animals, but you take part in the doggy event of the season! While pre-registrations have now closed you can still register on the day from 8.30am.. This is your chance to make history so make sure you join and help make the 2008 Million Paws Walk one for the record books!

We’re currently out walking dogs several days a week in the Hallam, Narre Warren North area. There’s some great areas for walking. If anyone in the area would like to take advantage of our dog walking service, then get in touch with us. The video footage is of Maynard, a labrador who is a regular client of hours, enjoying playing with a frisbee.
